The history of Muroran Institute of Technology dates back to the year 1887 ( the 20th year of the Meiji era) when the department of engineering was established at Sapporo Agricultural School (Agricultural department). This subject started during that time, first, by setting the civil expert department at Hokkaido Imperial University Agricultural University (1918-1949), later, as Muroran Institute of Technology Civil Engineering department (1949-date), and then as the third architectural engineering subject from the north northeast during the national universities (1966), where the base of this subject was finished. In 1990, civil engineering and architectural engineering subjects were combined. Maintaining this school tradition with pride as we embrace a new era.
