Welcome to PICLS 2024

The 17th International Symposium
Performance Improvement of Concrete for Long life span Structure

PICLS, which was first held in Cheongju, South Korea in 2007 to deepen ties between Japan, China and South Korea, will be held for the 17th time this year. Although 2020 was forced to be canceled due to the global spread of coronavirus infections, it was held remotely in 2021 and 2022, and last year in 2023 we were able to hold it as a hybrid of face-to-face and remote. This time, we are planning to hold a full face-to-face meeting.

PICLS aims to improve the durability and other performance of concrete, the most widely used construction material in the world, and to develop repair and reinforcement technologies to develop research results that will contribute to the realization of long-lasting concrete structures. The purpose of this project is to share the information among the three countries and improve their level. In recent years, concrete has also been required to reduce carbon dioxide emissions as a measure against global warming, and new technologies are being actively developed.

In Japan, PICLS has been held twice in Muroran, once in Asahikawa, and twice in Naha, but this will be the first time it will be held in Sapporo. Sapporo is the largest city in Hokkaido and is an attractive city with many tourist attractions. We are confident that PICLS2024 will be a fond memory for all the participants and that we will be able to obtain results that will be useful for future research.
