授業のねらい /Learning Objectives |
Fundamentals and application of fluid flow are the essential knowledges of mechanical engineers. The subject matter considered includes those in classical hydrodynamics, hydraulics and transport phenomena. The main topics are: Dynamics of a body moving through a fluid medium, inviscid fluid flows, viscous fluid flows, boundary layers, chaotic instability, unsteady pipe flow, and bubble dynamics. |
到達度目標 /Outcomes Measured By: |
(1) Understanding of dynamics of a body moving through a fluid medium (2) Understanding of inviscid and viscous fluid flows (3) Understanding of boundary layers and chaotic instability (4) Understanding of flow in pipes and motion of bubbles |
授業計画 /Course Schedule |
Total class hours: 12 hrs. 1W Dynamics of a body moving through a fluid medium 2W Inviscid fluid flows 3W Viscous fluid flows 4W Boundary layers 5W Chaotic instability 6W Unsteady flow in pipe 7W Bubble dynamics 8W Summary - subject to change N.B.: The students are expected to read the references on fluid mechanics prior to the class and review the lectures. They should refer to a math textbook and refresh your knowledge especially on fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and differential equations. N.B.: For each 90 minute class, students are expected to undertake an additional 4 hours of self study. <Owing to the covid-19 situation, there is a possibility to change the course schedule and teaching methods. In that case, it will be posted on Moodle or announced in the class.> |

成績評価方法 /Grading Guidelines |
Takehome assignments (70%+30%). Students who submit both assignments and obtain a 60% + average over the assignments pass the course (no resit). Re-take the class, if failed. The assignments will be assessed as follows: Structure, accuracy, clarity of communication, effective use of figures and tables, application of material and references, and your own analysis and interpretation. <Owing to the covid-19 situation, there is a possibility to change the grading guidelines. In that case, will be posted on Moodle or announced in the class.> |
履修上の注意 /Notices |
Attend every class on time. Please let the lecturer know before the classes (or as soon as possible) if you will not be able to attend. Meet the deadline for all assignments. A lecture cancellation and change will be posted on Moodle or announced in the class. |
教員メッセージ /Message from Lecturer |
The lectures in the 1st-5th weeks will be distributed by Prof. Kawai and the lectures in the 6th-(7th)8th weeks will be by Kazama (coordinator). |
