/Learning Objectives
In recent times, mankind is affording several of the difficult problems: energy issues, environmental issues, water resources lacking, and so on. In order to overcome these difficulties, we need the development of new industrial technologies. New technologies will play an important role in many areas supporting current and future stable energy supplies. Advanced materials will ease the dependence on fossil fuels, and are expected to play an important role in the challenge for the development of alternative energy technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For example, the superconductor cable can be transported without being diffuse current. One of the most fascinating challenges of materials science is the development of oxide superconductors, working as practical wires and tapes at the temperature of liquid nitrogen. Therefore, science and technology of superconductors are expected to be essential to the future of everyday life. Another important category of materials are thermoelectrics, capable to directly convert waste heat into electrical energy without moving parts.
