| 授業のねらい ／Learning Objectives |
Language is one of the important aspects of culture, and is a sort of looking-glass, through which we can see and understand culture. This course aims at providing the students with fundamental knowledge about linguistics, a scientific study of language. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding how diverse languages in the world are in the structural sense, particularly their sound aspects. Through exercises and activities (homework/assignments) to be given throughout this course, the students are expected to understand how the linguistic sounds are structured and to acquire basic methods for computer-aided experimental analysis of linguistic sounds. 言語は文化を形成する重要な側面の一つを担い、我々が文化を理解する道具のようなものでもある。本講座では、言語学と呼ばれる学問の基本概念を学び、それを通じて、構造的な側面、とりわけ音声的な側面において、世界の言語がいかに多様であるか理解することを目指す。本講座では様々な実習や課題を通じて、言語音の基本的な仕組みを理解するとともに、コンピューターを用いた言語音の分析方法の習得も目指す。 |

No textbook is used. Handouts, which are mostly written in English, will be provided. 教科書は使用ない。代わりに、主として英語で記した教材並びに資料を毎回の授業で配布する。 |
| 成績評価方法 ／Grading Guidelines |
This course will be assessed as follows: #1: A (almost) weekly assessments/exercises (50%) #2: A midterm examination (25%) #3: An end of term examination (25%) Note that the students need to achieve a grade of 60% or more in order to pass. 以下の合計で評価を行う: 1. （ほぼ）毎時間課す課題や練習問題: 50点 2. 中間試験: 25点 3. 期末試験: 25点 合計が60点未満の場合は不合格とする。 |
| 履修上の注意 ／Notices |
Irrespective of the reason, only 3 absences from class are accepted. If student is absent from 4 or more classes they will have to repeat the entire course next academic year. Students who are late for class without a legitimate reason will be marked absent. Students who fail the course will have to repeat the entire course next academic year. 理由の如何を問わず、欠席は3回までとする。 四回以上欠席した受講生は、次年度（以降）、本講座の再履修を要求する。 また、正当な理由なく遅刻した受講生は欠席扱いとする。 本講座の不合格者は次年度（以降）に再履修を要求する。 |
| 教員メッセージ ／Message from Lecturer |
傍観者として授業に出席してはいけない。そのような者は大学院で学ぶ資格はない。 各人が当事者であることを十分に自覚して、目的意識と問題意識を持って授業に参加すること。 特に本講座は毎回のように練習問題等を宿題として課すため、くれぐれも受講生は覚悟をしておくこと。 また、居眠りや私語等を行う者は容赦なく教室から出させる。 |
