授業のねらい |
'Tribology' from the Greek 'tribos' for 'rubbing',is the science of surfaces in moving contact. The term 'tribology' is defined as: the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion and of the practices related thereto (of related subjects and practices) [OECD,1969]. The aim of the course is to teach students the mechanisms and the role of friction, lubrication and wear in engineering fields, including state of the art in the information and practical solutions of the problems. |
|
授業の目標 |
On completion of this course, students should have an up to date knowledge of theory and application of tribological systems and an in-depth understanding of major frictional components of machines such as bearings and seals. |

教科書及び教材 |
The lectures will broaden the coverage of textbooks and provide the latest scientific, engineering and technical information with the class note as well as handouts. No textbook is listed as a complete reference for this course. The part of the note will be posted on the lecturer's web site. To access to the e-journals on the university library site and to read the up-to-date papers will be also recommended. |

成績評価方法 |
Examination (60%),takehome assignment(s) (20%) and quizz(es) in class (20%). Students who obtain a 60% + average over the examination, assignment(s) and quizz(es) pass the course. The takehome assignment(s) will be assessed as follows: Structure,Clarity of communication,Effective use of figures and tables,Application of material, and Your own analysis and interpretation. |
|
履修条件等 |
They should refer to a math textbook and refresh your knowledge especially on differential equations. The students will be expected to read the references on tribology prior to the class. |
|
教官からのメッセージ |
The lecture notes, handouts and information written on a blackboard will be given in English, whereas the lecture will be distributed in Japanese. International students should contact the lecturer prior to the course. The office hours (provisional) are: 15:00 to 17:00 on every Monday, Room 310-3 in Bldg. B. |
|
その他 |
This course will open twice a week, sharing with Advanced Control System Design. The details will be annouced on the bulletin board of Mechanical Systems Engineering Department and on the first day of the class. |
